5th – 8th Grades
How can music express and evoke emotions? Through the lenses of rhythm, meter and tempo, we’ll explore how different qualities in musical movement can inform our emotional experience of that music. How can a march be both jubilant like Mendelssohn’s Wedding March and somber like Beethoven’s funeral march in his 3rd symphony? How can Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and Bernstein each depict the intense emotions in the Romeo and Juliet love story in unique ways that affect how we feel while listening? This program will encourage active listening and questioning so we can better understand the power that music has for us!
