So begins the new poetry commissioned from Amy Ludwig VanDerwater for this year’s youth concerts. Join us as we celebrate the diverse community of the orchestra!
Buffalo has always been the City of Good Neighbors, where we work together with respect and encouragement. How do we achieve this? Just like in the orchestra, we actively listen to each other! Using Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra as the centerpiece of this program, we explore the unique sounds of the instruments using Amy Ludwig VanDerwater’s beautiful poetic imagery as a guide. Students will learn how musicians work together using the musical tools of expression – meter, tonality, dynamics and tempo. Celebrating our diverse community beyond the concert hall we include sing-alongs of God Bless America and the beautiful Mexican folk song, De Colores. Music can help us discover the power of listening to promote understanding, both in and out of the classroom.
This program aligns with Common Core Learning Standards for ELA and Literacy.
